About the Illustrator
Jean Claverie was born in Burgundy, France and is now widely regarded as one of the foremost illustrators in France. He attended art school in Geneva and then worked in advertising, on magazines and taught art students in Lyon. He has worked with various children’s publishers and illustrated many children’s books, including The Happy Prince by Oscar Wilde (Oxford University Press), The Pied Piper of Hamlyn by Kurt Baumann (Methuen), The Princess On The Nut by Michelle Nikly, Jean’s wife (Faber and Faber), which won the Loisirs Jeunes graphic prize and Three Fairy Tales by Ludvic Bechstein (Hutchinson), which won the Czechoslovakian Golden Plaque.
